Cookie policy
Last reviewed: September 2026
This website uses as little cookie-style storage as we can get away with. There is no advertising, no tracking across other websites, and nothing is shared with social media companies.
Your choice
The first time you visit, a small bar asks whether you are happy for us to count your visit. Nothing is recorded until you answer. Your answer is kept on your own device for a year, and you can change it whenever you like using the “Cookie choices” link at the bottom of any page.
What we store if you accept
- A visit reference held for the length of your browsing session. It is a random string with no name, email address or IP address attached, and it lets us tell one visit from two
- Your cookie choice itself, so the bar does not ask again
What the statistics record
For each page you view we store the address of the page, the website that referred you if any, the random visit reference and the date and time. We use this only to see which pages people find useful. It cannot be used to identify you and we never try to.
What we store even if you reject
Only your choice to reject, so we know not to ask again and not to count your visits. That is strictly necessary for the site to respect your decision.
Donations
Donations are taken on our donation partner’s own secure pages. If you go there, their cookies and their privacy notice apply to that part of the process.
Other embedded content
If we ever embed a video or a map from another company, it will only load once you have accepted cookies, and we will list it here.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can delete or block cookies and site storage in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will clear your saved choice, so the bar will ask again on your next visit.
