How giving works, step by step
If you are thinking about donating, here is exactly what happens to your money — from the moment you give to the day we tell you what it achieved.

Five steps from your gift to a funded project
Nothing complicated, and nothing hidden. This is all of it.
- 1
You choose an amount that suits you
One-off or monthly, £5 or £500. Our secure form takes a few minutes, and you can tick Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, which adds 25p to every £1 at no cost to you.
Monthly gifts are the most useful to us: they let us promise a researcher funding for a whole pilot study rather than part of one.
- 2
Your gift reaches Duet in full
Payments are handled by Zeffy, a payment platform built for charities that passes on 100% of your donation. You will be asked whether you would like to add an optional contribution to Zeffy — you can set that to zero.
You will get an emailed receipt straight away. Keep it for your records; if you claimed Gift Aid, it is on there too.
- 3
It goes into projects, not overheads
Mike and Julie Matthews cover Duet's running costs — the website, the admin, the accounts. That means donations are not absorbed before they get anywhere.
So £250 really does buy a day of specialist statistical advice, rather than a share of an office.
- 4
We look for the work nobody else will fund
Every request is read by people who spent twenty-five years in drug development. We ask three questions: would this otherwise stall, can it be finished in a couple of years, and will it help patients?
We fund rare disease detection, medicine side effects, and clear health information and education.
- 5
You hear what happened
We write up what we funded, what worked and what didn't. Findings and news go on the website, and supporters get an update by email a few times a year — never more.
No glossy annual report, no weekly appeals. Just what your money did.

What different amounts pay for
£40
Prints and posts plain-English information packs for a clinic waiting room.
£250
Covers a day of specialist statistical advice for a small pilot study.
£1,000
Funds the laboratory consumables for a diagnostic test validation run.
Questions supporters ask us
Can I say which area my gift supports?
Yes. Add a note in the donation form, or email us, and we will hold your gift for rare diseases, medicine side effects, or health information and education.
Can I change or cancel a monthly gift?
At any time, with no questions asked. Email us and we will sort it out the same week — or use the link in your receipt.
Will you pass my details to anyone?
Never. We do not sell, swap or rent supporter details, and we only email you about Duet's own work.
I would rather give something other than money.
Expertise, introductions and honest feedback matter just as much to a charity our size. Tell us what you can offer and we will find a use for it.

Ready when you are
Whatever you give, it goes straight into the work
If anything here is unclear, or you would like to talk to a person before you give, email us at Info@duet.org.uk. We answer every message ourselves.
