Everything people ask us before they join — what a member is, what it costs, and what we do and do not publish.
Joining
- What does it mean to be a member of Duet?
- Duet is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, which means it is a charity that is also its own legal body. Members are the people who make up that body. You are not a customer or a donor on a list — you have a formal say in how Duet is run, including voting at the annual general meeting and on any change to our governing document.
- Who can become a member?
- Anyone aged 16 or over who supports Duet's aims, and any organisation that does — patient groups, research teams, community pharmacies, employers. We ask you to confirm you support our aims on the form; there is nothing else to qualify for.
- Does membership cost anything?
- Nothing is taken online at the moment. You tell us which level suits you on the form and a Trustee confirms the details, including how to pay, before anything is due. If cost is a barrier, say so on the form — we would rather have you as a member.
- How long does an application take?
- A Trustee reads every application and comes back to you within a week. Approval is a real step: applications are reviewed in the admin area and only then does anything change on the website.
Once you are a member
- Will my name appear on the website?
- Only if you ask us to, and only after a Trustee has approved your application. We publish a display name, your membership level and, if you gave one, your town or area. We never publish an email address, phone number or postal address.
- Can I change my mind about being named?
- Yes, at any time. Email info@duet.org.uk and we will take your name off the page the same working day. Removing your name does not end your membership.
- What do members actually get?
- A plain-English update twice a year on the projects your money supports — including the work that did not go to plan — an invitation to the annual general meeting, a vote on the matters members decide, and first sight of the grants we are about to award.
- How do I end my membership?
- Tell us in writing, by email or post, and that is that. We keep only what we must to show our accounts are complete, and delete the rest.
Practical questions
- Is membership the same as making a donation?
- No. A donation funds a project. Membership makes you part of the charity itself. Many people do both, and you are welcome to do either on its own.
- Can my organisation join instead of me personally?
- Yes — choose 'organisation' on the form and name your organisation. One named contact acts for it, and the vote at the annual meeting belongs to the organisation.
- What happens to my details?
- We keep them to administer your membership and nothing else. We do not sell or share them. Our privacy notice sets out how long we hold information and how to ask for a copy or its deletion.
