Duet Health Foundation

Jobs

Work with us

Duet is a small team funding health research that bigger funders overlook. When we have a role open, it is because there is real work to do — and you would see the difference it makes.

Duet funds practical health research that larger funders overlook — rare diseases, the side effects of everyday medicines, and plain-English health information. Our running costs are covered by our founders, so every donation goes into projects.

This is the first programmes role at Duet. You would work directly with the trustees, reading applications, keeping in touch with funded teams and making sure what we publish about our spending is accurate.

What you would do

  • Read and summarise grant applications for the trustees
  • Keep funded projects on track and gather short progress updates
  • Maintain the published record of budgets, spending and outcomes
  • Answer questions from applicants clearly and quickly

What we are looking for

  • Comfortable reading scientific or clinical proposals
  • Careful with numbers and records
  • Writes plainly, without jargon
  • Right to work in the UK

We are a small charity that would rather explain one project well than publish ten press releases. This role owns the words: news posts, health information written with patients, and the updates our supporters receive.

What you would do

  • Write and publish news, blog posts and supporter updates
  • Work with clinicians and patients on plain-English health information
  • Look after the press inbox and our press kit
  • Keep the website words accurate and kind

What we are looking for

  • Strong plain-English writing, ideally about health or science
  • Happy working independently in a very small team
  • Right to work in the UK

Board · Voluntary

Trustee with finance experience

We are looking for one more trustee with a finance or audit background to join the board.

Salary
Unpaid, reasonable expenses covered
Hours
Around 8 days a year
Location
Remote, four meetings a year
Closing date
Closes: Open until we find the right person

Our trustees read every grant application themselves and approve spending as a group. We would like to add someone with a finance or audit background to strengthen how we oversee the money.

Trustees are not paid. We cover reasonable expenses and meet four times a year, usually online.

What you would do

  • Attend four board meetings a year and read papers beforehand
  • Help review budgets, reserves and annual accounts
  • Approve grants alongside the other trustees

What we are looking for

  • A finance, accountancy or audit background
  • Willing to be listed on the Charity Commission register
  • No conflicts of interest with our funded areas

What we promise applicants

  • We tell you the salary in the advert. No “competitive”, no negotiating in the dark.
  • Two conversations, not five rounds. Both with people you would actually work with.
  • We answer every application, and tell you why if it is a no.
  • Part-time, flexible hours and remote working are the norm here, not a concession.

Apply

One form, in your own words. There is no portal to register with and nothing to download.

A few paragraphs in your own words. We would rather read this than a formal covering letter.

No application portal, no login. If we need anything else we will simply ask.

What happens next

  1. 1We read your application ourselves — usually within a week.
  2. 2If it looks like a fit, we invite you to a friendly conversation online.
  3. 3One further conversation, then a decision and an honest reason either way.

We only use your details to consider your application, and we delete them when you ask.

How we handle your data

Not looking for a job, but happy to help? Volunteering and sharing your expertise matters just as much to a charity our size.

Support Duet

Small charity, practical help

Duet is funded by our founders and by people who believe useful research should not stall for want of a modest amount of money. Every gift goes into projects.
