A UK charity backing under-served health research

Duet Health Foundation

Apply for a grant

If your project has stalled for want of a modest sum, tell us about it

Duet funds small, practical health projects that larger funders pass by. There is no long form and no committee season — one short application, read by a trustee.

How applying works

1

You send us the short version

The form below is the whole application. A few paragraphs about the project, what it costs and when you would start.

2

A trustee reads it

Not a panel, not a scoring matrix. Someone who understands the science reads what you wrote and may email you a question or two.

3

You get an answer

Yes, no, or not yet — with the reason. We would rather say no quickly than leave you waiting on a maybe.

4

The money moves

We pay in instalments that suit the work, cover the unglamorous costs, and publish the grant on our grants page.

What we do fund

  • Pilot studies and proof-of-concept work that needs £5,000–£50,000
  • Validating a diagnostic test, assay or clinical pathway
  • Research into the side effects of medicines people take every day
  • Training and education that helps clinicians spot rare conditions sooner
  • Plain-English health information written with patients
  • The unfashionable costs: consumables, statistician time, data licences

What we cannot fund

  • Core funding, salaries or overheads unconnected to a project
  • Building work, equipment purchases or vehicles
  • Individual medical treatment or personal appeals
  • Work that a commercial sponsor is already paying for
  • Conferences and travel on their own

Not sure where your project sits? Ask us first — a two-line email saves everybody time.

The application form

Everything we need to make a first decision. Plain English is welcome — we would rather understand it than be impressed by it.

What you would do, who it helps, and why it has not been funded elsewhere. A few paragraphs is plenty.

No forms to download, no referees, no covering letter. If we need more we will ask.

You can see every grant we have made, with budgets and spend, on our grants page.

Support Duet

Small charity, practical help

Duet is funded by our founders and by people who believe useful research should not stall for want of a modest amount of money. Every gift goes into projects.
